What is it?
|
|
It’s a free legal consultation for young adults 18-25 who spent time in
foster care. It is designed to provide legal advice and ascertain unmet
legal needs for this vulnerable population.
|
|
Direct representation of 16 and 17 year olds who are currently in state
care and in their dependency and related proceedings.
|
|
How will I know what to do?
|
|
FCF provides a detailed questionnaire, instructions, training (available
on the web) and attorney support.
|
|
FCF will provide training and mentoring tailored to your needs.
|
|
How much time will it take and what am I getting in to?
|
|
The total time for training and performing a Legal Health Check Up will
take less than 5 hours.
You decide whether you will provide any additional advice or
representation after the initial meeting.
|
|
Depending on the circumstances this could be a short or very long term
commitment. We will confer with you about the client’s known issues
before asking you to accept representation.
|
|
What if I want to help but don’t know what I am doing – or if I can’t
help?
|
|
FCF will provide support to attorneys who are willing to take on
representation after the Check Up.
We will also endeavor to find other attorneys to undertake
representation if need be.

|
We will do our best to connect you with mentors and experts who can help
you every step of the way.
We encourage you to partner with a colleague to share the workload.
